What is the Agafay Desert?
The Agafay Desert lies outside Marrakech, in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. It's a stony, arid landscape of dry plateaus, gravel plains, and rocky trails rather than an oasis or a green valley.
A rocky desert, not Saharan dunes
Agafay is often described loosely as "desert," but its ground is rock, gravel, and hard-packed earth — not the tall sand dunes associated with the Sahara, which lies much further south and east. That firmer, varied terrain is part of what makes it well suited to guided electric bike, motocross, buggy, and quad routes.
Why it suits off-road riding
The mix of rocky trails, open plateaus, and gentle rises gives quads, buggies, and dirt bikes varied terrain to cover within a guided route, without the deep soft sand that makes some vehicles harder to control.
What to bring and wear
Closed shoes and clothing you don't mind getting dusty are a sensible choice for any off-road ride here. Bring sun protection and water — conditions can be sunny, dusty, and warm, and they can change through the day.
Follow your guide
Every ride is guided. Your guide sets the route and pace — following their instructions is part of riding safely on unfamiliar terrain.
Choosing an electric bike, motocross bike, buggy, or quad
All four categories ride the same general area. A quad or buggy suits riders who want a seated, four-wheeled vehicle (the buggy seats two); an electric or motocross bike suits a single rider who wants a two-wheeled ride. Most options are available for 1 hour or 2 hours, at a fixed price per vehicle or bike where published.
